Our First Trip.

When Craig's old buddy Kip Nixon invited us to his native Inagua to check out his new piece of land, we thought, "what the heck". It sounded interesting and we loved to snorkel, so why not? During the course of our trip, we fell in love with the island and we started making plans for how it would become our home.

On our first trip to the island, we fogged up the windows by pushing our noses against them for the entire trip from Fort Lauderdale to Matthew Town. We exhausted ourselves exclaiming about the colors of blue as they spread out under the plane. To this day, our amazement over the color of the Bahamian waters remains the same.

Our first glimpse of Inagua was memorable - giant hills of pure white salt visible from miles away, a large rose-colored lake right in the middle of the island, the stoic white lighthouse standing guard over Matthew Town's rocky cliffs, and white beaches and coral reefs encircling the entire island.

On subsequent trips we got accustomed to the wild donkeys, mid-day naps, long solitary walks along the beach and all the wonderful fish! We also got used to bumpy roads, the weekly mailboat and the slow pace of island life. We now know what the words tingum, junkanoo, cracked conch, goombay and seeumsayin mean.

The Proposal.
Having been friends for 12 years, Kip told us about the project that he was undertaking. The project would keep him busy and provide a source of cash for his retirement. He showed us a bare bones plan for a simple motel-style structure placed in the middle of four acres of beachfront property.

Since Craig and I had been in the construction and development industry for more than a decade, we cringed at the design and layout. And after discovering the natural beauty of the island, we were immediately convinced that Kip could do a much better job with this great opportunity he stumbled upon. Over the next few months a deal was struck. Craig, his cousin Patrick and I would join forces with Kip to undertake a more thoughtful and well-conceived project. The approach would be totally overhauled. A conceptual site plan was created, market research was conducted, a business plan was built, a fundraising strategy was devised, native plant species were inventoried and incorporated into a planting plan, a partnership was formed and an eco-tourism resort in The Bahamas emerged.

Today.
The project has been a marriage of a group of people with an exceptional set of complementary skills. Kip is a master plumber and electrician by trade, Craig is an accomplished South Florida general contractor, Kris had more than a decade of public sector business development under her belt and Patrick's training in financial and project management rounded out the group.

Today, construction is underway.  Even amid the construction, FNR is a sanctuary from the rat race that used to dominate our lives. The resort is being been built by a group of friends to offer guests a comfortable getaway that operates in harmony with nature and reminds guests to savor life's simplest pleasures.

We are happy that you joined us at www.flamingonestresort.com.  It is my first attempt at a website.  It is intended to be a temporary website solely for the purpose of communicating with investors and potential investors about the project and to raise awareness of the resort prior to its planned Fall 2004 opening.  Check back for regular updates - particularly the Project News page, where we'll be uploading construction site photos from now through project completion.

As the project emerges from the ground and we get closer to opening, a new website will replace this one.  The new site will incorporate the identity and approach that results from our marketing campaign.  So please don't judge the final product by our current "no-frills" look.  We are committed to excellence in all aspects of the project - from construction to communications to caring for our guests.

Please provide us with feedback on the site and the project.  What would you like to see?  What questions do you have?  Your ideas are what make this project truly unique.

I'll look forward to hearing from you!
